PLACEMENT PROCESS

The placement fever has started in my college immediately after my 7th semester exams got over.
Everywhere people started talking about placements. The first company to visit our college for campus recruitment this year (2010) is Tata Consultancy Services.
Our placement officer, a sincere and dedicated person in his job, wanted many of us to get placed.
So me created an oppurtunity for all the department toppers.
He prepared a list of students holding top-5 ranks in the departments of CSE, IT, EEE, ECE and MECH.
I was one among the top 5 in my department (CSE) and my rank was 4.
Test waiver was offered by TCS for these 25 students.
We are directly allowed to attend the HR & Technical interview. On one fine afternoon while i was checking my mails i got this rank list and the information in my inbox from the placement officer.
I found that the hardwork that i have put in panimalar engineering college in my first two academic years of  undergraduation did not get wasted. Those marks have really helped me out in boosting up my percentage and put me in the toppers list.
I was indeed very happy then. I was happy because i dont want to prepare for aptitude and i can spend more time in preparing for my interview.
I have already attended mock TCS interview conducted by the TCS people in a workshop held in my college on increasing the employability skills among the students.
This further gave me confidence to face interview. But i was weak in technical subjects in the 4th semester.
I waited for my semester exams to get over. As soon as the last exam was over, i started my preparation to face the interview with confidence.
I prepared answers for both technical and non-technical questions which they can ask us in the interview.
Meanwhile a three day brush up programme was conducted in our college for those students who are gonna take up aptitude. The TCS recruitment process is very simple. There were only two rounds.
1-Aptitude using TOUCH STONE software they have to answer some 35 questions in 80 minutes.Negative marking is there. 0.33 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
2-Interview--which included both HR and technical.
Our college placement officer instructed all of us (toppers) to submit the resume to him a week before the recruitment process. We did as we were instructed and he pointed out the corrections that has to be made in our resume.
My sister helped me a lot in preparing my curriculum vitae. She edited it and sent spent a lot of her precious time inspite of her busy schedule. I would like to thank her in this post. Thank u sis for spending ur time and energy for preparing my curriculum vitae. you also gave me confidence in the last moment.
After everything was prepared for the placement, we were instructed to attend the pre-placement talk on Sunday 12-12-2010 in our college auditorium. We were all instructed to come in formal wear. They have also strictly said that those who did not attend the pre-placement talk are not allowed to take up the aptitude test next day.
So we arrived early for the pre-placement talk which was supposed to be held on sunday by 2.30 pm. But the TCS people arrived only after 5.pm. We waited for such a long time in the auditorium. We were highly irritated by their punctuality.
The talk got over in half-an-hour. The next day was the most memorable day in my life.
i have written about it in my next post.
please read it and your comments are most welcome.

TOP 10 THINGS THAT SCIENCE CAN'T EXPLAIN

Top 10 Things Science Can’t Explain
Science can’t explain all. But just because these things are yet to be explained, doesn’t mean science ‘cant’ explain them.

The WOW! signal
Wow, a secret message from outer space! Twenty years on and still no nearer an answer.

Pioneer’s Funky Voyage
The creators of these deviant probes are ripping their hair out trying to understand what went wrong.

Female Orgasms
After a whole lot of thinking, biology’s best minds are still confused.

Dark Energy
The universe is a dark, dark place, which makes it ruddy difficult to study.

The Speed of Light
Faster than a speeding photon: is it possible? Einstein stays no, but does everyone else?

The Placebo Effect
Take this pill and you’ll be cured, just as long as you believe me.

Cold Fusion
Can atoms get together and let off some steam without the sauna?

Yawning
Open your mouth and notice the shockingly fascinating mystery of the yawn.

Dark Matter
Just because you can’t see the WIMPs and MACHOs doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

What Came Before, What Will Come After
Wouldn’t it be really boring if it was just blackness. However, anyone’s guess is as good as ours.

ROBOTS AND HUMANS THE FUTURE OF AI

After watching the film @endhiran (The Robot)@ in tamil i will say that my creativity got increased and i have decided to write science-fiction blogs. For writing those, i need to first understand the basic fundas of science.
Lets see how the future will be, if man socializes with robots.
First lets say that the robot is used for entertainment purpose. As we have already seen in Artificial Intelligence . It is basically used while playing games in computer especially when the computer takes the role of player-2 and plays with us in Chess.Hence we can directly come to the conclusion that a robot can play chess!!!!!!!!!!!!
If a robot can play the mind-game Chess then why cant it play other simple games like Basketball,Badminton and Cricket?
Yes ofcourse the robot can act as a partner for those people who are living alone. It can give us company.
A robot's intelligence can also help us in doing our official work. Then as we advance with this sort of robot which can replace a human(as a  companion, a mentor, a fellow player in a team, a house worker) to a robot which can do our work efficiently and fast.Well it is quiet interesting to see a machine watering our plants in the garden.
This we can say as the machine's first step in understanding human life.
Secondly what if the robot has been programmed enough to perform our daily work in the office?
Lets image something like the one given above.Alright till now we have discussed how robots live like humans doing our everyday activities. Now we got to understand the most important phase in the life of a robot. The question that naturally differentiates a human from a robot is our ability to reproduce. This i will say is possible with the robots also. Wondering how?????????? See the image above.Similar to a human mother who breast feeds her child a robot mother feeds her child robot with electricity from her own body. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Robots are the future.Believe it or not ONE DAY OR THE OTHER THEY ARE DEFINITELY GOING TO ROAM AMONG US AND LIVE LIKE HUMANS.

As the science-fiction film @The Robot@ says the robots have got tremendous power and if they are misused they have the capacity to destroy the earth also.

The "yes man" inside me

When i talk about "yes man", i am not talking about the movie "Yes man" starred by  Jim Carrey. In this blog it has a different meaning.

life in final year B.E.

life is becoming more tough and competitive these days.Getting a job is what many people aim for after entering final year. But for me it is different, i mean to say it all sounds different. I am confused to the core about what i should do in the future. For time's sake i am attending "placement training classes" conducted by T.I.M.E. in my college. It puts me into such a high mental pressure that i feel like preparing for another IIT-JEE exams. I really never felt that it demands such a huge amount of talent to enter into the corporate world. As a software engineer we need to write programs, think about codes and should have a highly developed logical thinking skill.Won't it be enough if those companies who are coming for placement check these skills? Why should they test our vocabulary? I accept that freshers seeking job in a reputed MNC should have good inter-personal skills and good body language. But why should they keep these aptitude exams as tuff as an engineering entrance exam with so many restrictions and at times with negative marking also?
anyway i have decided to prepare for these exams as i am determined to get into the corporate world. Now here comes the problem, my parents actually want me to do my post-graduation.But as far as i know in IT field only experience is valued more than qualification. So i am very keen in gettting a job.
It took a whole year for me to get adjusted to the new environment and to make some good friends in this college.I often feel that keeping mum and silence is the best way to earn a good name in any situation. Here people around me say that i am a very good girl as i am not poking my nose into other's matters and i do my job perfectly. One guy in my class even called me as "Miss.Perfect". :) I felt very happy.he he
I learnt a lot of things in the Symposium. I insisted my friend to participate in the quiz and we (me and my friend--a team of two) got selected in the preliminary round. We entered the final round with much applause and encouragement from our friends. But again due to my procrastination, i selected the wrong topic which i do not know fully. There we lost the marks. Finally we ended up getting the third place (actually a participation certificate was given to us).
PROCRASTINATION IS A CRIME.IT IS A SIN.FOR ME IT IS THE REASON FOR LOOSING IN THE QUIZ
The next week we went to kerala for industrial visit. We went to ISRO near the trivandrum airport at Velli. The journey was very tiresome. We slept in the bus for two nights and skipped breakfast on the day when we visited the site.Later we went to Trivandrum beach and also to Kovalam beach. The sand in the beach was black in color unlike Trivandrum beach. My friends got themselves soaked fully in the beach waters, they took bath later. But i was very afraid to get near the waters as someone said it will produce allergic reactions to somepeople's skin.
We were given time to shop in Trivandrum for an hour in which we were forced to have our dinner also.I bought a nice kurtha for myself.I did not buy anything for my family. My friends bought many things for their parents and siblings. They had lot of money.:(
The trip to kerala was nice.
